Bobby on a Budget: Textural Neutral Bedrooms (And How to Get The Look for $2,500)

//
Design: Swee Design

You may remember the Sculptural Modern Living Rooms that kicked off our Bobby on a Budget series. Well today we’re back and bringing you another style- textural neutral bedrooms- that look high end (but without the high price tag!)

So what exactly do we mean by textural neutral? This style draws inspiration from traditional, modern and organic elements. Furniture with clean and simple lines is influenced by Scandinavian design, along with sheets, pillows and throws in linen and cozy, textured weaves. Neutral colors like white, cream, putty and shades of grey pair with accents of black for graphic contrast. Warm woods, organic feeling accessories, subtle stripe patterns, and modern black and white art plays against minimal sconces and more traditional ceramic table lamps.

It’s all about simple, refined and comfortable spaces that are perfect for getting cozy as winter draws near. And while this design definitely looks lavish, (and there are plenty of high end pieces out there) it’s still definitely attainable. And bringing you chic design without sticker shock is one of our specialties!

We’re sharing the best textural neutral bedroom inspiration along with two bedrooms and all the product you need to bring the style to your space. We’ve created designs at two different budgets ($5,000 and $2,500) to make it even easier for you to bring this look to your home (and still have money for Holiday shopping!) Keep reading to see exactly how we put it all together.

We came in under budget for this room (yay!), with a total of $4,927. A more traditional style upholstered bed in a thin stripe anchors the design, along with a flat-weave rug in a rich brown tone. Oak nightstands bring in warmth, while texture is achieved through chunky knit pillows, a fringed throw and a linen covered dresser. The mirror above the bed and accent chair bring modern, graphic elements. Black accents, like the ceramic table lamps, abstract artwork, side table and metal floor lamp provide a contrast to the more neutral and soft elements in the space.  It’s a textured and layered design that is all about balancing textures, colors to create a cozy room.

We’ve got just $3 to spare on this design, coming in at $2,497. We’ve swapped out the stripe pattern bed for a solid upholstered option, but brought in stripes through the accent chair and ottoman. A light brown rug also anchors this room, with a black frame mirror and sculptural side table adding the graphic, modern punch. Again we’ve brought in texture through chunky pillows and a linen throw, and warmth by way of a pair of wooden nightstands. Black accents are reflected in the metal articulated sconces over the nightstands, abstract artwork and terracotta vase on the dresser. This space is also all about that mix of subtle patterns and textures, and the contrast of hard and soft to create a polished and comfy bedroom.

So, what do you think? We would love for you to share how you’re bringing this style into your own home! *A quick disclaimer. Although we measured everything to work together within these designs, every room and space is different, so before you purchase make sure that these pieces will work within your space. Good luck! Let us know what room and style you would like to see next.

  1. What about floors on a budget. I’ve been putting off replacing carpeting. Carpet is expensive enough but so are hardwood floors and I would love really love hardwood floors.
    Thank you, Rosalie
    Love you ?

    1. Thank you! Will definitely keep flooring in mind as a future post.

  2. Spare bedroom : French country, no red plaid. Maybe include some velvet and whites and wood and more romantic.

  3. Bobby!

    I’m an entry level professional and I love this bed frame! Unfortunately, it is outside of my budget. What would you recommend for a king-sized bed that has this (or a like-styled!) upholstered bed frame that has a good price tag? OR would you say, “man, this is something that is expensive but worth the investment, so I will save up for this”? This is kind of an embarrassing question, but brutal honesty is necessary! I have a partner and we are now in the market for a nice frame! Thanks and love the show. 🙂

  4. I love your show and this idea of updating a room on a budget but when you said “on a budget”, I thought you meant less than $1000 – I just can’t see myself ever spending $2500 on a room update on our current family budget. It’d be great if you could show us how to do some more minimal updates that make the room look better if we don’t have the money for the whole ordeal. -Thanks!
