Bobby’s Bookmarks: Our Favorites That We’ve Been Bookmarking This Week

Fall is already flying by, so make sure you take some time to enjoy the season – along with some of the interiors, places and products and that are inspiring us. So sit back with an apple cider, a cozy blanket, and see what’s got us excited this week.

Today, we’re sharing a modest mountain retreat in Southern California and a new hotel that’s equal parts calm and cool, and a home that makes the most of warm, neutral tones . We’re also highlighting our favorite products of the week, how to create healthier air in your home, and products to get your dining table all set.

A Modest Mountain Retreat With Big Style

We’ve definitely been daydreaming about escaping to this perfect little mountain hideaway. Built in the early 1900s in the San Gabriel Mountains outside Los Angeles, this compact space (just 600 square feet) was given a totally stylish but down to earth vibe by Commune Design. Besides the original stone fireplace and wood plank ceilings, the designers incorporated clever touches like shaker style peg rails to give this retreat a real dose of design. In fact, even the outhouse (with composting toilet) is easy on the eyes!

Check out our post Bring Your Destination Home: The Mountains to see how you can incorporate high altitude style to your space.

How To Create Healthier Air In Your Home

As the weather gets colder, we’ll all be spending more time indoors and at home. But have you thought about the air quality in your space – and how it could adversely affect you and your family? There are a number of ways you can make sure the air at home is healthy, starting by improving the ventilation and circulation in your space. Adding a filter to your HVAC system can remove almost all airborne particles (including allergens). And for an easier option- that’s also portable- try a compact and quiet air purifier to help your breathe easier.

The New Hotel That’s Equal Parts Cool & Calm

Aaaaaahhhhhh. That’s the sound we made when we first laid eyes on the new Cara Hotel.  With a palette of soothing shades of white and a tranquil courtyard, it leaves you feeling instantly relaxed. Located in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles, Cara (which means friend in Gaelic) immediately envelops you in a sense of ease and comfort. And with a restaurant and easy access to hiking trails at nearby Griffith Park, there’s plenty of reasons to develop a lasting friendship – and come back often.

Get Your Dining Table All Set

Now’s the time to get your dining table all set – and ready for fall gatherings. If it’s time to upgrade your table, this farmhouse style trestle table is a great foundational piece (and a super affordable option). Pair it with black spindle back dining chairs for a more modern take, add a striped table runner to soften things up, and serve up your meal in style on organic shaped stoneware plates. Finish things off with some simple black candlesticks, and enjoy the autumnal ambiance!

Making The Most Of Warm & Neutral Tones

Old meets new in this wonderfully warm California home. Built in 1907, the Arts & Crafts abode was given a thoughtful renovation by designer Patrick Bernatz. Using a palette of rich tones of green, buttery yellow, and browns (along with gorgeous eucalyptus wood) he remade the space into a moody and thoughtful retreat. Custom built-in seating, beadboard walls, and cleverly designed shutters that help diffuse bright sunlight really set the space apart – and bring the best of the past and present together.
