Why (& How) You Should Nap

Know as a micro or power nap, A short period of sleep during the day has been proven to offer numerous benefits throughout your day. In fact, A nap can help you function better, improve your mood, increase your energy, and even benefit your sleep at night.

 

But not all napping is totally beneficial. Sleep experts recommend a 20-minute nap between the hours of 1 and 4 PM for the most positive impact. The shorter duration and afternoon timeframe ensures it will not interfere with your sleep later that evening (and you won’t fall into slow-wave sleep, which can make you feel groggy), yet still offer a restorative effect.

 

 

Tips For Better Napping

  • Find a quiet, dark spot
    If you don’t have blinds or curtains to close, you can always use an eye mask to block out light.

 

  • COVER YOURSELF WITH A BLANKET
    Staying warm and cozy will help you doze off faster.

 

  • MAKE SURE YOU’RE NOT HUNGRY OR THIRSTY
    A rumbling stomach or parched throat will make it harder to fall asleep.

 

  • DRINK CAFFEINE BEFORE YOU LAY DOWN
    For some extra energy when you wake up, try drinking espresso or green tea prior to napping.

 

  • SET AN ALARM
    And of course, make sure you have an alarm set so you don’t sleep too long!
