Even though Bobby makes it look easy, designing your home can definitely be challenging. There are so many things to consider, choices to be made, and questions you may have along the way. But what if Bobby could give you some personalized design advice? For one very lucky couple, he did just that, helping them design their dream home!
Partnering with Fiverr, Bobby met with one couple for a coveted 1-on-1 virtual design consultation – where they could get his expert advice on their own home. Plus, the winners also received a Fiverr gift card to use on any freelance service, from creating a custom moodboard to a furniture layout, or even a personalized shopping list for their home.
So let’s meet the winners and see how Bobby helped them design their dream home!
DESIGN A DREAM HOME
The HOMEOWNERS
Chandler and Lauren are a young couple who just purchased their first home outside of Austin, Texas. The 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath home offers plenty of space, but they’re looking for help in creating a cohesive design for their living room, kitchen, and dining area. So Bobby joined the couple for a virtual consultation earlier this month to offer his expert advice on how to make it happen.

The SPACE
Like many new homes, Chandler and Lauren have an open concept floorplan, with the living room, kitchen, and dining area all in one large space. This presents. the challenge of creating a cohesive design throughout the three spaces. In its current state, the home is also a bit of a blank slate, with lighter-colored walls, beige carpet, and dark wood flooring and cabinets. There is also a very long (and empty) wall that extends from the living room to the dining area that could use some attention.

Chandler and Lauren’s ideal design style? An easy, relaxed, and natural vibe with a mix of dark and light wood and earthy-inspired elements. Color-wise, they’re definitely drawn to green (which also happens to be one of Bobby’s favorite colors to use) and works perfectly with a more organic design style.

Bobby’s DESIGN ADVICE
For the living room, Bobby suggested bringing in some architectural details and adding some new furniture and design features, including:
-
The addition of board and batten on the walls (which could be painted green) to bring in some interest
-
A larger L-shaped sectional in a lighter color to maximize seating
-
A lighter coffee table in a rectangular shape
-
An armchair in the corner to create a seating arrangement
-
A media cabinet under the TV that would break up the long wall
-
Replace the bookcase with a larger, more impactful built-in bookshelves
-
Add art over the sofa for visual interest
In the kitchen, Bobby suggested a dose of color and a few quick updates for a more cohesive and interesting kitchen.
-
Paint the cabinets a shade of green and replace the hardware to create an updated look that reflects their style
-
Add new upholstered counter stools in a lighter color and lighter wood for contrast
-
Bring in a patterned or striped runner to soften the space
Finally, in the Dining Area, filling a blank wall and shedding some light were Bobby’s expert suggestions.
-
Move the dining table further from the wall and add a console and mirror above for a finished look
-
A chandelier over the table would provide an ideal light source
-
A durable rug under the table will help with dampening sound and soften things up
We hope Chandler and Lauren enjoyed their consultation as much as Bobby did, and that they are well on their way to creating their dream home!
