Color is one of the most effective tools you have at your disposal when designing your home. It’s a way to add interest, create calm, or even bring in a bit of drama. However, committing to color can feel a bit scary. How do you find the right balance of bold tones or add a certain shade without it feeling overwhelming? It’s not as difficult as you may think, and there are lots of ways to add color toy our interior – no matter your commitment level!
To help you on your color journey, we’re sharing 4 ways we used shades of blue and greens in our Traditional Eclectic project, ranging from colorful cabinets to more subtle applications through accessories and art. Whether you are color-curious or ready to fully embrace a pop of pigment, you’re sure to find one of these ideas appealing (and totally doable in your own home). So let’s take a look at how to add color to your interior!
HOW TO ADD COLOR to your interior
1. A Coat Of Paint
It may be the most obvious way to inject some color, but there are a myriad of ways (besides the walls) to use paint in your interior. You can choose to add a coat of paint to your cabinets (like the Galapagos Green we used in this kitchen), use paint to highlight an architectural feature (like molding or an archway), or even bring paint up onto the ceiling. Whatever application you choose, just remember to test out your paint first before you make your final selection.

2. An Array Of Accessories
If an entire room awash in color feels a bit too much for you, don’t worry! There are quite a few other ways to bring in color more subtly. Any accessory in a room is an opportunity to inject dark, light, warm, or cool tones. We chose a pair of blue and green pillows and a tan throw to add visual interest in this living room and a handful of black and white vases, bowls, and decor as well. The result is just a slight nod to color – that can also be easily changed out should you wish to switch up your shades.

3. Accent Wallpaper
Wallpaper is not just a way to bring in color, but also an option for infusing pattern. Whether you fancy florals, stripes, abstracts, or even texture, wallpaper can make a colorful mark. Instead of covering the entire room, try an accent wall for a more dramatic focal point (like this guest bedroom). And for a less permanent option, you can also use a temporary, peel-and-stick wallpaper (including Bobby’s collection for Tempaper) that can easily be removed.

4. Eye Catching Art
Finally, don’t forget about one of our favorite ways to contribute color to a space: Art! No matter the medium or subject matter, art can make a statement – even above your tub! We love to use large-scale artwork to really be the centerpiece of a room, or add a gallery wall when you have many pieces you want to put on display. Shop all our favorite art HERE.
