Bring Mediterranean Style Into Your Space: My Newest Project

Bright blue waters, cobblestone streets, centuries-old architecture, and artisan-made accessories. All of these characteristics define Mediterranean Style, and have enchanted many a traveler on summer vacation in Europe. But if you ask me, this style is also ideal inspiration for designing your home, and it served as just that for my latest design project!

The colors of the sea and the shades of a summer sunset were the starting points for this 2,216 square-foot home. Part of the Tri Pointe Homes Luminary at Outlook community in Winchester, California, I brought in lots of Medditerranean inspired patterns, texture to convey depth, accessories with handmade details, and artwork and wallpaper for a bit of personality. And I’m providing you with the design tips – and shoppable products – to bring the same Mediterranean style to your space!

Mediterranean Style

Think Warmth and Lightness

Mediterranean style is all about warmth, texture, and that effortless indoor-outdoor connection—and this room captures the formula beautifully. I started with a soft, sun-washed foundation: the creamy sectional, light woven rug, and linen drapery echo the neutral palette of coastal villas and allow natural light to bounce throughout the space. Then I layered in organic materials to ground the look—the round wood coffee table, leather sling chairs, and oak kitchen cabinetry introduce that essential rustic craftsmanship that Mediterranean interiors are known for. Finally, bring in sculptural yet simple accents—ceramic vessels, olive branches, and the round iron chandelier add old-world character without visual heaviness.

Choose Soothing Seaside Shades

For this bedroom, I started with a foundation of coastal blues—like the soft blue-gray paneled accent wall —which instantly evokes the calm of sea and sky while adding architectural depth. Then I layered in sun-bleached neutrals through upholstery and bedding, as seen in the warm linen headboard, creamy duvet, and sand-toned bench, to balance the cooler hues and create that relaxed Mediterranean vibe. Textured white artwork and a tall palm finish things off, creating a breezy, tranquil seaside retreat (even if it is hundreds of miles from the ocean).

Add Artisan Accents

Bringing in decorative accents that have a handmade feel is another easy way to welcome in Mediterranean style. In the primary bathroom, I took a simple space and gave it character through a vintage rug, textured towels, and a handwoven basket. The artwork over the soaking tub, featuring a stylized urn, also draws back to the artisanal look, and ties evetyhing together.

Engage In Outdoor Living

The exterior of this home also evoked Mediterranean architecture with sand-toned stucco and clay roof tiles, and has plenty of outdoor space for relaxing and entertaining al-fresco. In the covered seating area, I layered in relaxed, low-profile lounge chairs, an outdoor sofa, and a patterned rug to create an inviting conversation zone that feels effortless but elevated. And no Mediterranean-inspired outdoor space is complete without a big, rustic wood dining table to gather around with friends, family, and good food!
