Our Design For The Living By Design Virtual Showhouse

Designing a room comes with its own set of unique challenges. But when you’re designing a room that only exists virtually, many challenges actually become opportunities! That’s why we were so excited to go digital – and create a design for the 2023 Living By Design Virtual Showhouse!

For the 2nd year in a row, we had the opportunity to create a design for the Living By Design Showhouse.  And this year, we were tackling a room with great ambitions: the great room. Without the limitation of a physical space, we had the opportunity to flex our design muscles and approach the architectural and interior design without any boundaries! So let’s take a look at what we created – and the inspiration, layout, and design details behind the great room of the 2023 Living By Design Virtual Showhouse!

The Inspiration

For the great room, we looked to bring in Bobby’s cool and effortless signature style, and a mix of modern and traditional. We planned to utilize luxe materials like mixed marbles, walnut wood, and black and brass metallics to elevate the design and embrace an architectural approach to the fireplace and wood paneling that connects to the traditional style of the virtual house. Some unexpected sculptural components would also add some visual interest

The Layout

The great room is located in the center of this virtual home and serves as both a gathering spot and a connecting point to the kitchen, sunroom, and entry. We created a layout that responded to the location, with a cozy seating group of low-slung furniture pieces and easy paths of egress throughout the space.

The Great Room Design

Our great room design came together to create a warm, cozy ambiance. The space features sculptural, organically shaped furniture and accessories (like a serpentine couch and rattan chaise), contrasting with linear elements like marble and wood paneling. The color palette is a mix of natural tones – ivory, black, camel, and rust – that feel earthy but elegant at the same time. As the central point of the home, the room’s design is muted yet striking, achieving a modern yet timeless feel.

Our design was thoughtfully and efficiently translated into a stunning virtual room by YouSee, and we also worked with a number of amazing brands to bring the room to life, including AHF, Ann Sacks, California Closets, Dunn Edwards DURA, Kohler, Lamps Plus, Minted & Summer Classics. A special thank you to the production team at Embello for bringing this project to life!
