STEP 1: Color Palette
The first step to any beautiful table setting is choosing your colors. While I usually prefer a minimal palette of mostly neutral tones, for Mother’s Day, it makes sense to cater to your guest of honor and opt for Mom’s preferred shades. I went with a palette of pale peach, creamy whites, and soft sage green that feels totally natural (and my mom, Connie, really loves).
For 2026, you could also lean into the richer, moodier spring tones that are trending this season: think dusty rose, warm terracotta, or a deep sage paired with cream. The key is picking two to three complementary shades and carrying them through your entire table.

STEP 2: Dinnerware
While opting for a matching dinnerware set is certainly a fine option, I like to mix up my plates and bowls for a more unique table setting with a lived-in feel. Pair a dinner plate with a bowl or salad plate in a complementary shade (I went with white and beige) or use two highly contrasting colors to really make your table pop. This layered look creates depth and gives your Mother’s Day brunch table that effortlessly curated feel without spending a fortune.

STEP 3: Glassware
Varying the height and materials of your drinking glasses will add further visual interest to your Mother’s Day tablescape. I went for a pale peach wine glass and a shorter water glass that complement each other while making the table more dynamic. The trick is pairing two different styles: one taller stemmed glass for wine and one shorter glass for water. The variation in height draws the eye and makes even a simple table look thoughtfully designed.

STEP 4: Napkins
A little bit of pattern can definitely go a long way. And the best way to introduce a pattern (without feeling overwhelming) is through napkins. I chose a pretty plaid in the same peach tone, but any floral print, geometric, or abstract design will add that touch of interest to your spring table setting. Cloth napkins instantly elevate a table from casual to special, and they’re one of the easiest (and most affordable) ways to introduce personality.

STEP 5: Candles
My foolproof way to set the mood? Add an array of candles to your table. Whether you opt for tapers or pillars, candles create instant ambiance and make any meal a little more special. They’re also a pretty (and practical) way to add height and introduce a bit more color to your Mother’s Day dinner setting. Mix different holders at varying heights for the most interesting look. Even mismatched candlesticks can look intentional if they share a similar color story.

STEP 6: Greenery
And no Mother’s Day table is complete without a bit of greenery. But you don’t need fancy florals to bring your table together. Instead of a centerpiece or expensive arrangement, I simply went outside, clipped a few eucalyptus branches, and added a simple sprig to every plate.
It’s free, fresh, and makes the entire table smell incredible. You could also use rosemary, olive branches, or whatever is growing in your yard. That’s the beauty of this step: it costs nothing and makes the biggest impact.
