Bobby Builds A Scenic Yoga Deck At Casa Tierra With TimberTech®

The practice of yoga is all about balance and strength. So when it came to creating a yoga deck at Bobby’s vacation home, Casa Tierra, he chose to work with a brand whose product also embodies those principles. TimberTech’s aluminum framing system provides a stable and long-lasting foundation, and its low-maintenance, recycled PVC decking is the perfect sustainable surface to get focused and flexible. So let us show you how – and why – Bobby created this deck, and how TimberTech‘s products made the entire space totally zen.

Creating A Yoga Deck at Casa Tierra

At Casa Tierra, there’s no shortage of outdoor amenities, from a pool to a pickleball court, to an outdoor kitchen, and a fire pit. But Bobby saw the potential for even more. On a hill above the property, he envisioned another feature that was less about entertainment and more about mindfulness. Many guests at Casa Tierra had commented they would like an outdoor location to do yoga, and this locale, with sweeping views of the entire property and the desert landscape, was the perfect scenic spot for a yoga deck. With this vision in mind, it was time to team up with TimberTech and make this deck a reality.

Working with TimberTech® Aluminum Framing

Building a deck on a rocky, uneven site in the middle of the desert is about as easy as doing a handstand in yoga. However, when you have a revolutionary framing system, well, it becomes a whole lot easierTimberTech Aluminum Framing is a complete system of components, from joists and posts to ledgers and beams, that all work together to create a perfect foundation for the deck. The smart design also uses fewer fasteners – and requires less on-site fabrication, which made the installation faster and easier. Another major plus for Aluminum Framing? It results in an extremely flat surface (something that is definitely necessary for balance in yoga). To top it off, aluminum is also highly resistant to moisture damage like rust and corrosion, is noncombustible, and has a Class A Flame Spread Rating (the highest available). This is all super important when installing in a fire-prone area and for deck longevity, in general.

A Decking Material That Will Last

After installing the aluminum framing, the TimberTech Vintage Collection® decking in Weathered Teak® was next. Bobby had previously used this material twice before, for the Casita Deck and Pool Deck at Casa Tierra, and fell in love with the look, sustainability, and durability. In addition to the little to no maintenance (it’s made high-performance recycled PVC), he adores how this deck blends seamlessly into the surrounding desert color palette. And it looks just like real wood – without any of the upkeep. The fade-resistant finish and barefoot-friendly surface that won’t splinter was also the perfect choice for the desert – and yoga.

He also added an Impression Rail Express® railing around the perimeter of the deck. The powder-coated aluminum is durable and easy to install and allows for less obstructed sightlines out into the landscape.

Bobby (and the guests at Casa Tierra) couldn’t be happier with the new yoga deck. It adds a serene and calming new feature that will look good for years to come, all thanks to TimberTech!
