Walls Going Up, Coming Down, & A New Pool: Construction Updates From Casa Mallorca

Well, Bobby’s Casa Mallorca project is now well underway, with the ultimate wellness retreat inching closer and closer to completion! Bobby already gave you a glimpse of the whole property, and now, it’s time to break down his plans even further – and update you on all the construction currently underway at Casa Mallorca. Let’s see what’s going up, what’s being torn down, and all the big updates in progress!

What does Casa Mallorca consist of? Let us show you. Here’s a bird’s-eye view of the entire property to give you an overview. You can see the main house, addition, pool, new guesthouse, as well as the existing guesthouse and a shed, all in the works.

The Existing House

The main house at Casa Mallorca is the largest building on the site and the hub of the property. In addition to an open living and dining room, there’s a kitchen, powder room and 2 bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms. And as of now, nearly all those spaces have been demoed in preparation for renovation.

In the living/ dining, the wood beams, flooring, and natural stone wall remain, but everything else has gone bye-bye. The powder room – which used to feature a fishy wallpaper – has been stripped back to the studs, along with the 2 bathrooms upstairs.

WHAT’S NEXT?

New sliding doors that open the living room to the pool, drywall, new windows, and kitchen cabinetry.

The Addition

The main house will be getting a major addition in the form of a new laundry room, along with 4 new bedrooms – each with their own en suite bath. If that wasn’t enough, each bath will also have a totally private outdoor shower (and one with a tub) too! Now that’s what we call luxury! The foundation for the addition was laid a few months ago, with framing, electrical, and plumbing also completed.

WHAT’S NEXT?

Drywall and all new windows are coming in the next few weeks.

The New Pool

When Bobby acquired the property, it already had a large pool and hot tub. So why remove it? Long story short, the pool didn’t have the right permits, so in order to make any upgrades or changes, it had to be removed entirely! Not an ideal situation, but Bobby took it as an opportunity to make a bigger and better pool.  So the pool was dug out, the area excavated, steel framing added, then electrical and plumbing, then concrete poured for the new pool. With the new pool taking shape, it’s clear this obstacle is going to lead to an amazing outdoor amenity on the property.

WHAT’S NEXT?

Tile and interior finish for the pool and hot tub.

The New Guesthouse

To host even more guests, a 2nd guesthouse is being erected in a private corner of the property. It will add 2 additional bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, along with a kitchen and living room. Since this was a ground-up construction, it required a brand-new foundation, followed by framing, electrical, and plumbing.

WHAT’S NEXT?

Drywall and new windows are coming in the next few weeks.

Stay tuned as we bring you more updates on Casa Mallorca in the coming weeks! And if you aren’t familiar with Casa Tierra, you can learn all about that project – and book your stay – here.

  1. I have a question or two about sustainabilty. I love your designs both interior and exterior, but this is a desert. How does having so many bathrooms and a big pool impact water use? Also I don’t see any solar panels. Will you have some? What about cisterns for rain capture to water landscape?
