It’s time for another Queer Eye makeover! Today we’re heading back to school with all the details on Kathi from Queer Eye Season 4.
We meet Kathi during episode 1 of Season 4. (Fair warning, there are spoilers ahead!) Kathi Dooley runs the music department for the public schools in Quincey, Illinois and was also Jonathan’s high school orchestra teacher. She has devoted her life to teaching and music, enriching the lives of students and spending very little time on herself. She hasn’t updated her style in over 20 years (and by the looks of it, it’s been that long since the school’s teachers lounge has been updated too.)
Kathi was honored as the grand marshall of the town’s annual parade, and we wanted to give her an updated look for the event, along with a total refresh for the teacher’s lounge, which was also renamed the “Dooley Den” in honor of our hero.
For the makeover, we added a brand new kitchen, communal dining table and comfy areas for the teachers and staff to relax and unwind (including massage chairs!) Now it’s a spot Kathi and the other staff can look forward to spending time in after a long school day.
Keep scrolling to see the before and after on this makeover, and if you missed any of our previous makeovers, be sure to check out Matt, Wesley, Rob, Jess, Robert and Jody. We’ve also pulled together all the products from every makeover HERE.
Lovely and creative as always. Paint color? Thanks.

Loved the episode “Kathi” from QE Season 4.
Can you please tell me about the massage chairs Bobby chose for the Dooley Den?
Thanks kindly!
You can find a similar model massage chair here. Thanks for reading! xx -B
Nicely done Bobby! I am an interior decorator AND a Teacher/Counselor/Intervention Specialist for our district. Creating a space like you have for Kathi and her colleagues is such a gift. Being in education is an emotional drain at times, but we all just keep coming back for more because we love helping kiddos! I am going to propose to our Superintendent that I do something similar in our “lounges” in the entire district especially after the amount of work we have all put in, and will continue to put in, due to our Covid-19 closures. Teachers will need Social Emotional support too as we figure out how to move forward in the Fall. We have to now literally put our masks on before we can do so for the students. Thank you for loving on this staff SO much! Know that you’ve inspired me to do the same.

Creating a safe & relaxing lounge space at school for teachers will be crucial during these challenging times. Thank you for sharing your story and for doing all that you do! I’m so happy you were able to find inspiration from Kathi’s makeover. Sending lots of love xx -B
I love this design soo much. I am a teacher who is working on turning a former classroom into a staff lounge. I keep trying to recreate it on a very small budget. The link you shared before for the paint color no longer works, is there a new link with a similar color you could share? Thanks! I always love your designs!
Thank you for educating the future! The paint color is Polo Blue by Benjamin Moore. xx -B
