New Orleans is a city steeped in musical history – and also the birthplace of Jazz. And on this episode of Queer Eye, the Fab Five meet one local jazz legend who is making sweet music. Get ready to meet the next hero from Queer Eye Season 8: Doreen!
We Meet Doreen Ketchens in Episode 3 – “The Sweet Life”. Doreen is a renowned jazz clarinetist and founder of Doreen’s Jazz New Orleans. A fixture in the city and often performing in the French Quarter, the “clarinet queen” is looking to revitalize a part of her past: her mother’s sweet shop, which closed after 35 years after Hurricane Katrina. While she’s a pro at making sweet music, she needs a bit of help re-opening the shop and planning for her future after performing.
The Fab Five meet Doreen in her natural element – performing with her band in the French Quarter! After learning about her music, they set out to give her newfound confidence through some new clothing, help her with recipes for her sweets shop, and assure her that she is a valued part of New Orleans – and jazz – history!
For this design makeover, Bobby totally transforms the former Doreen’s Sweet Shop into a new space that honors the past – and looks toward the future!
