On ‘Junk or Jackpot?’, I helped collectors make sense of their overwhelming and all-consuming collections. And a big part of making their spaces more functional was adding storage that would help them stay organized and showcase their items. Whether it was figurines, records, memorabilia, or miniatures, these are the best storage solutions I utilized on the show – and you can too!
If you have a large collection of figurines, placing them in an enclosed, glass-front cabinet is a smart move. For Patrick’s figurines in Episode 1, I added not one but three different glass-front built-ins to show off his most prized pieces (and added LED light strips to highlight them). And when they are tucked behind glass, you also don’t have to worry about the tedious task of dusting regularly.

Use Storage That Showcases
Think about storage as both a way to keep things organized and to view the items that you really love. For Vivian’s makeover in Episode 4, I gave her closet a total overhaul to make it functional and a spot to show off her Wonder Women clothing and accessories. A mix of hanging racks, glass cabinets, and a center table with display areas lets her have access to everything and actually see (and enjoy) her beloved belongings.

Create Built-Ins
The ultimate way to honor treasured objects? Create a custom-built-in to house them. (If you really love something, then you should show it some love, right?) For John and Victoria’s massive record collection, I designed built-in cabinets that would hold hundreds of albums, along with a listening station and space to show off covers. A couple of picture lights at the top also shed light on the collection.

Stack Storage Bins
In Episode 3, Tonya had a ton of miniatures, dolls, and accessories that desperately needed to be organized. My solution? Add storage bins (with labels) for all the different items, and stack them up to the ceiling. Utilizing vertical space was the most effective way to really use the space, and adding a rolling ladder allows for easy access.
