Been missing your Queer Eye re-caps? Don’t worry – we’re back with another makeover (and inspiring story) from Season 5. This week, I’m sharing a young activist who’s fighting climate change – and her sustainable home makeover.
Keep coming back each week for an inside look at how all the transformations happened and how to create the makeovers we gave to the heroes in your own space.
We meet Abby Leedy in Episode 5- “The Anxious Activist”. (Spoilers ahead – you know the drill!) Abby is an 18-year-old working for the Sunrise Movement, an organization working to stop climate change. And she doesn’t just work there- she eats, sleeps, and breathes it – and lives in a house with her co-workers! But while she’s totally focused on her activism, Abby is forgetting the most important thing – taking care of herself.
The Fab Five step in to give her home (and wardrobe) an update that retains a youthful spirit – and show her that sustainability and self-care can go hand in hand.
For this makeover, we transformed Abby’s home into an ideal spot for her to unwind, spend quality time with her housemates – and leave work behind. To keep things eco-friendly, almost all the products used in this makeover were sourced from a local vintage retailer. Thus, we’ve included a number of sustainable and recycled products in our round-up.
Keep scrolling to see the results of Abby’s home makeover, along with all the shoppable products for you to bring the look home.
And if you missed any of our previous makeovers, be sure to check out Nate, Jennifer, Noah, Rahanna, Kevin, and Tyreek from Season 5; Deanna, Kenny, Wanda, Kathi, Matt, and Wesley from Season 4; and Rob, Jess, Robert and Jody from Season 3. We’ve also pulled together all the products from every makeover HERE.

What color paint did you use on the kitchen cabinets in this makeover?
I used Benjamin Moore’s Arctic Blue for the cabinets. Thanks for your comment! xx -B
Hi Bobby, loved this episode. My partner and I are not very well-off so seeing how you repurposed second hand furniture was good inspiration.
Do you have any tips on how to buy furniture when you move regularly (renting) and don’t necessarily know what might fit your next space? Is there furniture that will work universally?
There’s no simple solution for making furniture work in lots of different spaces. But my suggestion would be to purchase pieces that are multi-functional. For example, this table has collapsible sides and center storage, so it can be used in lots of different ways in all different kinds of spaces. You can find lots of options like this for affordable prices, and it should make re-decorating easier when you move. Thanks for commenting! xx -B
Hi Bobby,
This was one of my most favorite make over ever. Thank you for posting the specifics. Can you also post in the future the diningarea and kitchen? Because that was also amazing.
Xo
Howdy! I am super in love with the big yellow dining table in this episode. Any hints/information on its make/model/year and/or where to find one like it?
Adam
That piece was a 1980s era table found at a vintage store. I would recommend searching “80s lacquered dining table” online to find similar options. Thanks so much for reading! xx -B
WOW what a discovery!! thank you so much Bobby for your talent and taste and sharing your knowledge with us! Watching your makeovers never failed to make me all bleary eyed during my recovery from covid!
Thank you so much. Glad we could provide some enjoyment during your recovery. xx -B
What was the color of the cabinets in the kitchen on this episode?
Color is Raindrop by Sherwin Williams. xx -B
what is the actual chair in living room? it is not the swivel chair suggested. help!
The chairs we used were vintage, so we substituted for the swivel chairs. xx -B
Love the effect the two paint colors have on making the space seem more put together! What height do you recommend doing the switch? What colors did you use ?
Thank you! I used paint to create a faux chair rail at 32″ high and to add some visual interest into the space. The colors are Benjamin Moore Simply White and Collingwood. xx -B
Hello Bobby I am a huge fan of the show and I am in love with the big frame behind the couch where the guest pick a color and sign. How did you do that I was thinking about getting some paint examples at the store and put them on a frame I just don’t know how they would stay.
It was super simple. We just got a large canvas and attached the free paint chips with double-stick tape. Very affordable and a great way to create a piece of unique art xx -B
Hi Can u tell me the paint color of the kitchen cabinets in this episode. I love it Mary
I used Benjamin Moore’s Arctic Blue for the cabinets. Thanks for your comment! xx -B
Sorry to bother you with such a tiny request! I really would like to know the color of paint used on the cupboards in the Anxious Activists (S5) kitchen. I have cupboards in a modular home I need to paint and would love the color used!
I used Benjamin Moore’s Arctic Blue for the cabinets. xx -B
